How to Pay on Irembo: A Step-by-Step Guide

Irembo is a digital platform in Rwanda that allows users to access and pay for various government services online, such as passport applications, driving licenses, and more. Whether you’re a first-time user or someone looking for a refresher, here’s a clear guide on how to make payments on Irembo.

1. Create an Irembo Account (if you don’t have one)

Before you can make any payments on Irembo, you need to register for an account:

  • Go to the official Irembo website at www.irembo.gov.rw.
  • Click on the “Sign Up” button.
  • Fill in the required details, including your email address and password, and verify your account.

2. Access the Desired Service

Once you have logged in:

  • Navigate to the homepage or use the search function to find the service you want to pay for (e.g., Passport application, Driver’s License, Criminal Record, etc.).
  • Click on the service and fill in the necessary information on the application form.

3. Choose Payment Method

After completing your application:

  • You will be redirected to the payment section. Here, you will see the total amount to be paid.
  • Select your preferred payment method. Irembo offers various options, including:
    • Mobile Money (MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money)
    • Bank payment
    • Visa or Mastercard
    • Agent payment (for those who prefer to pay through a physical agent)

4. Paying Using Mobile Money

If you choose to pay using Mobile Money, follow these steps:

  • Select MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money as your payment option.
  • A pop-up will appear asking you to enter your mobile phone number.
  • After entering your number, you will receive a prompt on your phone asking for confirmation.
  • Enter your Mobile Money PIN to approve the payment.
  • You will receive an SMS confirming that the payment has been successfully processed.

Paying with MTN Mobile Money

  1. For MTN Mobile Money, there are 2 options:

– Dial a short-code *182*3*7*Bill ID# and follow instructions on your phone.

-Pay instantly using the MTN MoMo Push feature by clicking Pay to receive an instant cashout pop-up notification on your phone.  

Paying with Airtel Money

For Airtel Money, there are 2 options: 
Dial *182*4*5*1*Bill ID# and follow the instructions on your phonePay instantly by using the Airtel Money Push feature by clicking Pay to receive an instant cashout pop-up notification on your phone.

5. Paying by Bank

If you decide to use a bank payment option:

  • Choose the bank option from the list of available methods.
  • You will receive a unique Reference Number which you can use to make the payment at the bank or via your banking app.
  • You can either visit a bank branch and make the payment over the counter or use an internet banking platform to pay using the reference number provided by Irembo.

Bank of Kigali (BK)

Bank of Kigali (BK), has multiple options available for payment: 

  • You can visit the nearest Bank of Kigali branch or BK agents.  
  • You can also pay using the Bank of Kigali Mobile App and Internet banking.

I&M Bank

I&M Bank has different options:

  • You can visit the nearest I&M branch. 
  • You can also pay using the mobile app, Internet banking, and USSD(*227#).

6. Paying by Visa, Mastercard, and American Express

For credit or debit card payments:

  • Select Visa, Mastercard or American Express as your payment option.
  • Enter your card details, including the card number, expiry date, and CVV (security code).
  • Confirm the payment, and you will receive a notification once the transaction has gone through.

VISAMastercard, and American Express: This is an online payment channel. You can choose one of these cards, enter details, and click Pay

The applicant receives a notification that the service was successfully paid for and an application number is provided to track the status of the application on the platform.

In case of delayed payment, the Bill ID will expire and you will be required to re-apply for a new one.

NOTE: 

  1. There are no extra charges for all the payments made on IremboGov using the above payment channels. You can pay for a service in Rwandan Francs (Rwf) or United States Dollars ($).
  1.  If the applicant doesn’t pay immediately after submitting their application, they can follow these steps to make their payment:

Step 1: Visit www.irembo.gov.rw and click on Find Application.

Step 2: Enter the received billing number in the search bar and click the search button.

– Once the details are retrieved click on pay.

Step 3: You may select any mode of payment that was mentioned above.

7. Confirmation of Payment

Once the payment is completed:

  • You will receive an email or SMS notification from Irembo confirming that your payment was successful.
  • You can also log back into your Irembo account to check the status of your application and ensure that the payment has been recorded.

8. Troubleshooting Payment Issues

If you encounter any issues during the payment process:

  • Ensure that you have sufficient funds in your Mobile Money or bank account.
  • Double-check the phone number or card details you entered.

Can I pay in cash?
No, Irembo only accepts digital payments. However, you can visit an Irembo agent who can assist with the payment on your behalf.
