Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Akagera

Arrive at Kigali International Airport. Optional Kigali city sightseeing (Genocide Memorial, local markets). Drive approx. 2.5–3 hours to Akagera National Park. Check-in at Ruzizi Tented Lodge (luxury) or Akagera Game Lodge (mid-range). Evening briefing with guide: overview of safari, safety tips, and Big Five info. Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 2 — Full-Day Game Drive & Lake Ihema Boat Safari

Breakfast at lodge. Depart for full-day game drive in 4×4 safari vehicles. Explore savannah, wetlands, and forested areas. Look for the Big Five plus giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos, and crocodiles. Over 500 bird species including African fish eagles and herons.

Picnic lunch at a scenic park spot. Afternoon: continue game drive to Lake Ihema for a boat safari — see hippos, crocodiles, and water birds up close. Visit papyrus swamps and island bird sanctuaries. Return to lodge for dinner.

Day 3 — Morning Game Drive & Optional Cultural Activities

Optional sunrise game drive or guided birdwatching walk. Second game drive to explore park areas not covered on Day 2. Afternoon: optional cultural village visits for traditional crafts and dances, or guided nature walks along the park boundary. Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Day 4 — Return to Kigali & Departure

Breakfast at lodge. Check-out and scenic drive back to Kigali (2.5–3 hours). Optional stop for lunch or short Kigali city tour if flight schedule allows. Transfer to Kigali International Airport.
