Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Rubavu (Gisenyi)

Meet your guide in Kigali and transfer to Rubavu (formerly Gisenyi) on the northern shores of Lake Kivu (approximately 3 hours). Check in to your accommodation, enjoy a briefing on the trail, and rest in preparation for the hike. Dinner and overnight in Rubavu.

Day 2: Congo Nile Trail — Lake Kivu Hiking

Begin your hike southward along the Congo Nile Trail, passing through fishing villages, coffee washing stations, banana and cassava plantations. The trail offers spectacular views of Lake Kivu and the distant hills of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Approximately 15–18km today. Overnight at a trail guesthouse.

Day 3: Tea Estates and Community Visits

Continue along the trail through Rwanda’s stunning western highlands. Visit a tea estate and learn about Rwanda’s famous tea industry. Walk through community villages and enjoy the warmth of Rwandan hospitality. Overnight at a trail guesthouse.

Day 4: Final Section and Return to Kigali

Complete the final section of the trail and transfer back to Kigali or onward to your next destination. This marks the end of your Congo Nile Trail adventure.
