This 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Mount Karisimbi Hiking package is designed for clients interested in observing wild gorillas and hiking one of Africa’s tallest mountains. Both activities are within the Volcanoes National Park and require visitors to be in great physical shape and fitness.

Hiking Mount Karisimbi takes two days. Visitors are rewarded with beautiful views of the Virunga ranges from the top of the summit at 4,507 metres. Spotting the vegetation, birds and primates during ascent and descent is also unforgettable.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Tour of Kigali City – Transfer to the Volcanoes National Park
Our Come2Rwanda guide will pick you up from your hotel or airport early morning. You will visit the Gisozi genocide war memorial site, the Kings Palace and local markets for souvenirs. After lunch, start the 3-hour journey to the Volcanoes National Park.

Dinner and overnight at The 5 Volcanoes Lodge (Luxury), Davinci Lodge (Mid-range) and The Garden Place Hotel (Budget).

Days 2 and 3: Two Days Hiking Mount Karisimbi
Early morning transfer to the Kinigi park offices for briefing. Hiking to the top of Mount Karisimbi takes 6 hours and starts at 8:00am. You will be joined by cooks and porters to carry your equipment. On Day 2 you reach 3,700 metres and camp for the night. On Day 3 you summit the very top, enjoy the breathtaking views of the Virunga ranges, then descend back to the lodge for an early rest.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking – Transfer Back to Kigali
Wake up and take breakfast before heading to the park offices for gorilla trekking briefing at 7:00am. After tracking gorillas and spending one hour with a family, return to the lodge for lunch, then start the journey back to Kigali.
