4 Days Volcanoes National Park and Lake Kivu Tour

This 4 Days Volcanoes National Park and Lake Kivu Tour combines two of Rwanda’s most celebrated experiences — gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and the serene beauty of Lake Kivu. The itinerary also includes a hike to Dian Fossey’s gravesite at Karisoke Research Centre.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Ruhengeri

Meet your guide on arrival and enjoy a Kigali city tour visiting the Genocide Memorial and craft shops. Transfer to your lodge near Volcanoes National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Briefing, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park

Up at 6:00 AM for breakfast, then transfer to Kinigi HQ for a 7:00 AM briefing. Trek into the forest to find the mountain gorillas — this can take 2–6 hours. Spend a magical hour with the gorilla family, maintaining a respectful 6-metre distance. Afternoon cultural visit to Iby’iwacu Village. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Dian Fossey Gravesite Hike and Transfer to Lake Kivu

Morning hike to Dian Fossey’s gravesite (4–6 hours), visiting Karisoke Research Centre and learning about her contribution to gorilla conservation. Lunch then transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi (1 hour drive). Evening at leisure on the lakeshore. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Lake Kivu Boat Cruise and Return to Kigali

Morning boat cruise on Lake Kivu exploring the islands, birdlife including pelicans and fish eagles, and the beautiful scenery. Lunch then drive back to Kigali for drop-off at the airport or your hotel.
