This 7 Days Rwanda Safari takes you to two of the country’s national parks for an amazing encounter with chimpanzees, golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. The tour starts with a tour of the city of Kigali before chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest. From Nyungwe, you transfer to Lake Kivu for a number of activities before heading to the Volcanoes National Park.

At the Volcanoes National Park, you will take part in gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, visiting the Ellen DeGeneres Campus and the Gorilla Guardians Village. Lake Kivu is one of the largest lakes in Africa, shared by Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, famous for its beauty and the large reservoir of methane beneath it.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Airport Pick-up – Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
The Come2Rwanda guide will pick you up early morning for the 5-hour journey to Nyungwe Forest. Check in to your lodge, refresh and relax.

Overnight at One and Only Nyungwe House (Luxury), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range) and the Gisakura Guest House (Budget).

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest – Canopy Walk
Early breakfast before briefing on chimpanzee tracking. The guides know where to find the chimps — once located, take photos and observe their behavior. In the afternoon, go for the forest canopy walk for an aerial view of the park. Expect to spot 12 other species of primates, butterflies and birds.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu – Afternoon Boat Ride
Checkout and start the journey to Lake Kivu. Have lunch overlooking the lake. In the afternoon, take a boat ride to visit some of the islands. Option to swim in the lake or relax by the waterfront.

Day 4: Tour of Lake Kivu and Fishing Villages – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Tour the different sites around Lake Kivu including the fishing villages and spot resident and migratory bird species. Then transfer to the Volcanoes National Park.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking – Visit the Gorilla Guardians Village
Briefing at 7am before gorilla trekking. After one hour with a gorilla family, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village for traditional cultural dances and performances.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking – Visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus
Track golden monkeys in the bamboo forests of the Volcanoes National Park. Visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund — an impressive facility dedicated to gorilla conservation and research.

Day 7: Tour of Kigali – Departure
Morning transfer to Kigali for a tour of the city, visiting the Gisozi Genocide Memorial, the former presidential palace and local markets, before being dropped at the airport.
